Richard Petts hosts a discussion of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. The Swedish title of the popular novel is “Men Who Hate Women,” and the group explores Stieg’s motivation for focusing on the topic of violence against women, including Sweden’s unique historical struggle with the issue as well as modern exacerbation stemming from Muslim immigration. They also explore the unlikely romance between the two main characters, reaching a general consensus that Larsson self-identified with Blomkvist.
About Book Club
The Unsafe Space Book Club is an opportunity for members of the community to read and then get together to discuss interesting or relevant books, both fiction and non-fiction. Books are selected when a community member advocates for a book and volunteers to lead the discussion. Book Club discussions always begin with the advocate’s case for why a book was selected, as well as a general summary, before opening the discussion to other participants.
